The Gwinnett Daily posted reported that the License Plate Scanner case will be argued before the Georgia Supreme Court on Tuesday, January 7th, 2014.The case Rodriguez v. State centers around a traffic stop of Sonia Rodriguez in Norcross in Gwinnett County Georgia who was arrested for Marijuana Possession.  Apparently, the License Plate Scanner or LPR recognized her car as being driven previously by a male individual with an active warrant who had borrowed the car previously and received a ticket while driving the vehicle which belonged to and was registered to Rodriguez. Despite the fact that the police stopped the car that had no male inside it and the names were different, police stopped the car to see if the male with the warrant was driving the car. A divided Georgia Court of Appeals affirmed the stop despite the tenuous connection of a person with a warrant who once drove the car was found to be enough to justify a traffic stop even the absence of an independent traffic violation or invalid license plate.
