Creative Loafing Expose: Murder in Georgia Prisons

Creative Loafing Expose on the Deteriorating Condition of Georgia Prisons. Georgia Prisons are underfunded, unsupervised,  unsafe, run by street gangs, and riddled by violence. There have been over 33 prison deaths since 2010 which is almost 30% more than the decade spanning from 2000 to 2010. The reality of the prison system plagued by violence and corruption is that you are just teaching a generation of criminals that government institutions are fixed, corrupt and untrustworthy, and that safety and security come only from the inclusion and ethos of a criminal street gang.  Martin Luther King, Jr. ironically, captured it best in his letter from a Birmingham jail, “I have consistently preached that nonviolence demands that the means we use must be as pure as the ends we seek. I have tried to make clear that it is wrong to use immoral means to attain moral ends. But now I must affirm that it is just as wrong, or perhaps even more so, to use moral means to preserve immoral ends.”  If the ends we seek in our legal system are justice, peace, security, and the rule of law, then all of this is rendered meaningless and certainly will be lost if our prisons are run by brute force, violence and corruption.
